Connaught (Zone 4)
Patrons at the Connaught Grandstand will have superb views of the Formula One™ cars racing across the Esplanade Bridge at speeds of up to 280km/h, and jostling for overtaking opportunities at the extremely heavy braking zone at Turn 14. Such a hard braking zone is also likely to produce accidents. In 2012, Michael Schumacher out-braked himself and rammed his Mercedes into the back of Jean-Eric Vergne’s Toro Rosso, taking both cars out of the race.
This tight corner was also the scene of another incident in 2009 involving Adrian Sutil, Nick Heidfeld and Jaime Alguersuari, which forced a premature retirement for Sutil in the race. Certain seats also offer a view of Turn 8, where Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire at the run-off area after his collision with Mark Webber in 2010.
Patrons have access to Zone 4, please click here for the Zone Map.
